Twice a year, sometimes more, I go on trips with the specific goal of capturing beautiful images and creating memories. Because I have a day job and don’t travel full time, one of the most difficult questions I have to wrestle with is, ‘Do I return to my favorite locations and look for new perspectives, or do I get the excitement of totally new destinations?’

Patagonia Landscape Photography

Patagonia was the decider for me and landscape photography. For many years I liked the idea of photography, but never really done it beyond travel snapshots. I decided that 2018 would be the line in the sand for me; either I was going to take photography seriously and work at it, or I needed to move on to something else.

I only took 18 hours for YouTube stars Brendan Van Son and Thomas Heaton to sell out their 2018 Patagonia landscape photography workshop. I was the first person to register and pay a deposit.

I returned again in 2019 with friends I met in 2018. You could say I enjoyed it.

Japan Cultural Photography

As westerners, we’ve had a collective fascination with Japan even as far back as Japonisme in the late 1800s.

Japan was going to overtake the US and be the world’s leading economy, they told us as kids in the 90s. I remember watching documentaries in school about the Japanese going to class 6 days a week. Things didn’t work out that way in the end, and I was skeptical when we were told in High School that now Mexico was going to overtake the US; until their currency collapsed.

After high school, I moved to Japan for college and ended up staying for over 10 years.

The Great American West

Two epic road trips and a small handful long weekend getaways through the great (North; let’s not forget our brothers in Canada) American West could never be enough. There’s enough beauty and wonder to fill multiple lifetimes.

No spam. I promise. Just a simple email when I return from a trip and post new pictures. Maybe someday I’ll try and sell a calendar, or some prints. I’ll send an email if/when that happens, too.
