Jeff and I wanted to arrive early to claim our spot before everyone else came to enjoy beautiful views of Fitz Roy, fall colors, and an impressive waterfall on the Rio de la Cascada. But we ended up arriving a little too early. For a full 3 hours, we say in the freezing cold, huddling behind whatever rocks we could find for shelter from the wind, wearing all our layers as we waited for sunrise.

Billed by tour guides as ‘The Secret Waterfall’, this location is overflowing with avid and casual photographers alike, most who do not consider other photographers as they flash their headlamps and stand in the way. Not many make the effort to hike the extra distance to find a way down to a small patch of rocks in the middle of the river, where I was able to capture this unobstructed view of the scene.
